- Title
- Portrait of the official silimama of Tuwachung-Jayajum festival
- Description
- Just as in the traditional village bhume pujas (rituals for the local bhume or sakela goddess) Tuwachung-Jayajum festival appoints an official dance leader. Called by different designations, this can be a skilled man or woman who leads, or at least opens, the sakela sili dances. Here called the silimama, the position was held by 85 years old Denkanne Rai from the Chamling Rai village of Arkhaule, also known by her nickname Mungjima.
